I’m excited to share a new initiative as part of the Alpha Exchange. Elevating the podcast into an in-person event, Alpha Live will bring members of our investment community together for an evening of social collaboration while featuring a thought-provoking “fireside” discussion on markets and risk.
I am a strong believer in the power of compounding. Most good things are outcomes that result from compounding. Health, education, relationships and business success, to name just a few. But compounding only works when staked by initial capital. I say that relationships with industry colleagues built on trust and mindshare are a source of capital that can yield valuable returns. Relationships are capital. Alpha Live is about creating this capital.
Let’s be honest, there is a ton of ground to cover in markets. It may be the same in every industry, but in finance it is surely the case. There are many asset classes, product types, geographies, trading strategies, and other complexities. We often benefit from specific expertise shared by other professionals. Need a read on Section 301 around tariffs? You’ve got a contact who’s in the weeds on that. Want to get up and running quickly on High Yield CDS? You know where to turn. We compete with each other, but we also make each other better.
I launched the Alpha Exchange podcast in 2018 to contribute to how our industry thinks about risk. It’s been a wonderful experience, and we are soon to reach our 250th episode. I’ve been fortunate to meet some excellent new people, hopefully creating value through the exchange of ideas along the way. But what if we facilitated these conversations in person? What if we created a forum for us to socialize and engage with one another in the process? That is what Alpha Live is about.
